Regarding to your statement below "but i can't upgrade the vm from Windows server 2003 to Windows server 2008 after it moved".
It would be better off for you to perform clean install with the new VM as it give you better performance.
One way to try is to upgrade the VM hardware into version 7 and then followed by the VMware tools upgrade.
